Introduction to Gamification:
A Crash Course
Gamification goes beyond adding points or leaderboards, and it’s certainly not about creating manipulative reward loops. Instead, it’s about applying game design principles to make experiences more engaging and rewarding. With this short course, you'll learn what gamification really is and how to use it to enhance the design of your games and apps.

This course is ideal for:
Gamification is an attempt to turn mostly dull or at least un-fun activities into enjoyable, rewarding, and addictive ones. It employs game design elements in non-gaming contexts in an attempt to improve user engagement, enjoyment, productivity, activity flow, learning, and (much) more.
Gamification enhances systems and makes everyday interactions pleasing, by ensuring well designed reward flows, satisfying progress mechanics, and quality feedback to user actions.
In this course's two sessions, you will learn gamification's fundamental methodologies and theories. You will also get to apply this knowledge in workshops meant to ensure you understand both how gamification works, and how to design gamified systems.
🎓 Session 1 [2.5 to 3 hours]: Covers the basics of gamification. We will discuss the Dynamics, Mechanics, and Components of gamification, as well as design principles, addictive design, and conditioning. By studying example applications, learners will understand how to design rewards, set up reward cycles, think about meta games, and distinguish between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. A 'Gamification Analysis Workshop' follows.
🎓 Session 2 [2.5 to 3 hours]: The focus shifts towards the techniques of gamification, with a discussion of designing satisfying feedback, creating the appropriate fiction, and deciding on visual style. Gamification frameworks, engagement loops, user types, personalized experiences, and user journeys are also studied. This session's 'Design a Gamified Experience Workshop' is followed by a feedback session.
